Former Chelsea player Florent Malouda returned to his former club Delhi Dynamos this season as the marquee signing, according to reports. The club has confirmed the deal for the forthcoming Indian Super League (ISL).

Malouda was welcomed with open arms, after his impressive time out on loan to the Egyptian Premier League club Wadi Degla FC. He enjoyed a stellar debut season with Dynamos as one of the high profile players to join the league.

Presient of Dynamos Prashat Agarwal said: “Florent is a team player, and he was an integral part of us reaching all the way till the semi finals last season. His leadership both off and on the pitch is commendable.”

Malouda told reporters that he was excited at the chance to return after his “wonderful experience” in the last term. He promised the club that this season would be no different, telling fans that whilst there were many factors impacting on performance out of his control, he would be working as hard as possible to get the Dynamoes to the top of the league.

“We had a very good squad last season, and it was sad that we had to bow out of the tournament in the semis. It’s different squad this year, I hope that we can build on what we achieved last season and together aim to lift the trophy this season,” the UEFA Champions League winner said.

The Lions are hoping for a better season under new coach Gianluca Zambrotta. Malouda played against his coach at the 2006 World Cup, and he said he is knowledgeable about the style of football of the new coach. Zambrotta replicated the favour, adding that he was happy to have “a proven champion and a legend” on his side.

Malouda has played for Lyon and Chelsea in the past, aside representing his country – France, at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup. Since his move to Dynamos, he has made considerable impact. Whilst on loan for half a season last term, he scored three goals in ten games for Degla.
