Malouda Still Loves Lyon

Though Chelsea no longer have an interest in this season’s Champions League, winger Florent Malouda has revealed to France Football that he will be keeping a close eye on the semi-finals as he will be cheering on former club Olympique Lyonnais in their bid for success against Bayern Munich.

Malouda insists he is the luckiest man in England (even though he’s never won on the scratch cards!) because he is at his dream club. Nonetheless, he still follows his old club’s fortunes.

Malouda insists he is the luckiest man in England (even though he’s never won on the scratch cards!) because he is at his dream club. Nonetheless, he still follows his old club’s fortunes.

The former Guingamp man turned out for les Gones from 2003 to 2007, winning four Ligue 1 titles and the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award for 2006-07 during his time at the Stade Gerland, which pre-empted his switch to the Premier League in 2007. Evidently, the Rhone Valley club are still in the heart of the 29-year-old.

“I am their No.1 fan,” the left-sided player told L’Equipe. “I often return to Lyon because I have my house there. It makes me happy to see their journey. I’m proud.”
